Dedicated Plans Definition

When we speak of hosting web servers, there are 3 principal kinds - shared hosting servers, VPS (private virtual web hosting servers) and dedicated servers. Shared hosting servers accommodate plenty of customers and thus the system resources per web hosting account are limited, VPS plans offer more configuration freedom, but also affect other virtual web hosting servers on the hardware node if used imprudently, and dedicated servers offer you the freedom to do everything you decide without intervening with anyone else.

Why would you require a dedicated server?

Dedicated servers are commonly much more expensive than shared web hosting servers or virtual web hosting servers. Why would anyone, then, use them? The explanation is rather simple. If your company has a repeatedly visited website, or simply has very exact web server architecture requirements, the wisest option is a dedicated server. For somebody who is willing to invest in security and stability, the bigger price is not an issue. You get full root privileges and can use 100 percent of the dedicated hosting web server's resources without anyone else availing of these resources and messing with your web pages.

Hardware specs

Most hosting corporations, incl. us at 29blue, provide several hardware configurations you can select from as per your requirements. The configurations include different kinds of microprocessors, a different number of cores, different RAM memory and server hard drive sizes and different monthly traffic allowances. You can pick a web hosting CP, which is a useful interface if you wish to use the dedicated web server for web hosting purposes only and prefer not to resort to a Secure Shell client for all the modifications you will be making. We provide three kinds of Control Panel software - Hepsia, DirectAdmin and cPanel.

The hosting Control Panel of your choosing

If you are a self-assured Linux user (our dedicated hosting web servers are running on Linux or other Unix-based Operating Systems), you could administer your dedicated server through a Secure Shell connection exclusively. That, though, could be awkward, especially if you choose to give full root-level access to somebody else who has less technical experience than yourself. That is why having Control Panel software installed is a bright idea. The Hepsia web hosting CP user interface that we provide does not give you complete root access and is chiefly appropriate for somebody who maintains plenty of web pages that devour a lot of resources, but would like to administer the websites, databases and email mailboxes using an easy-to-use Control Panel. The DirectAdmin and cPanel web hosting Control Panels, on the other hand, give you full server root privileges and offer three access levels - root, reseller and user. If you intend to resell web hosting accounts rather than using the dedicated hosting server only for yourself, you should choose one of these two.

Web server monitoring and backup services

Last but not least, there is the issue of monitoring the dedicated server and of backing it up. In the event of a predicament with your web hosting server, such as a non-responsive Apache or a downtime, it is desirable to have some kind of monitoring platform enabled. Here at 29blue the system administrators monitor all dedicated servers for ping timeouts, and, if you have a Managed Services package, they monitor the separate services on the dedicated server as well. Backups are also an extra feature - the hosting solutions provider offers you data backups on our own backup web servers. You could pick a kind of RAID that would permit you to store the very same data on two server disk drives as a protective measure in case of a server hard disk failure, or in case someone whom you have given complete root-level access erases something by accident.
