What Do Dedicated Servers Signify?

When we talk about web hosting servers, there are 3 basic categories - shared website hosting servers, VPS (virtual private web servers) and dedicated servers. Shared hosting servers host many clients and hence the resources per hosting account are restricted, VPS accounts offer more server configuration independence, but also influence other private virtual web servers on the hardware node if utilized unwisely, and dedicated servers give you the possibility to perform everything you see fit without messing with anyone else.

Why would you require a dedicated server?

Dedicated servers are traditionally much more high-priced than shared hosting servers or private virtual web servers. Why would anyone, then, use them? The answer is very simple. If your firm has a high resource-swallowing web site, or simply has very explicit server configuration requirements, the right choice would be a dedicated server. For someone who is inclined to invest in safety and dependability, the bigger price is not a concern. You are given full server root privileges and can utilize 100% of the server's resources without anyone else using these resources and meddling with your web sites.

Hardware configurations

The majority of hosting firms, including us at 29blue, offer several hardware architectures you can select from in keeping with your demands. The hardware configurations offer different types of microprocessors, a different amount of cores, different RAM and server disk drive sizes and different traffic usage quotas. You can select a hosting CP, which is a useful interface if you wish to use the dedicated hosting web server for web hosting purposes only and prefer not to resort to SSH for all the modifications you will be making. We provide three sorts of web hosting CP software - Hepsia, DirectAdmin and cPanel.

The web hosting CP of your choosing

If you are a self-reliant Linux OS user (our dedicated hosting web servers are running on Linux or other Unix-based Operating Systems), you could administer your dedicated server through SSH exclusively. That, though, could be awkward, especially if you want to grant full server root access to somebody else who has less technical experience than yourself. That is why having Control Panel software installed is a clever idea. The Hepsia web hosting CP software that we provide does not offer root privileges and is mainly appropriate for somebody who runs lots of web sites that consume a lot of system resources, but would like to manage the sites, databases and email mailboxes using an easy-to-use Control Panel. The DirectAdmin and cPanel hosting CPs, on the other hand, give you full root privileges and offer three access levels - root, reseller and user. If you intend to resell hosting accounts rather than using the server just for yourself, you should select one of these two.

Web server monitoring and backup procedures

Last but not least, there is the matter of monitoring the dedicated server and of backing it up. In case of a problem with your web server, like a non-responsive Apache or a network downtime, it is advisable to have some sort of monitoring platform activated. Here at 29blue the system administrators monitor all dedicated servers for ping timeouts, and, if you order a Managed Services upgrade, they monitor the separate services on the dedicated server too. Backups are also a bonus option - the web hosting distributor offers you data backups on our own backup web servers. You could select a kind of RAID that would allow you to save the very same data on 2 server hard disks as a precaution in the event of a hard drive failure, or in case someone whom you have ranted root-level access erases something accidentally.
