For your info, it's useful to know that most of the cPanel-based Hosting offerings on today's hosting market are provided by a quite insignificant business niche (as far as annual capital flow is concerned) dubbed hosting reseller. Reseller hosting is a type of a small-size business segment, which generates an immense number of different web hosting brands, yet providing literally the same thing: chiefly cPanel web hosting solutions. This is bad news for everybody. Why? Because of the fact that at least 98 percent of the website hosting offers on the entire website hosting market offer one and the same thing: cPanel. There's no variety at all. Even the cPanel Hosting price tags are identical. Quite identical. Giving those who demand a top web hosting service virtually no other website hosting platform/website hosting Control Panel choice. So, there is only one single fact: out of more than two hundred thousand hosting trademarks in the world, the non-cPanel based ones are less than 2%! Less than two percent, mind that one...

200k "Hosting firms", all cPanel-based, yet diversely branded

The Hosting "diversity" and the web hosting "offerings" Google shows to all of us boil down to just one and the very same thing: cPanel. Under 100's of 1000's of different web hosting trademarked names. Assume you are merely an average guy who's not very well acquainted with (as the majority of us) with the web site making processes and the web hosting platforms, which actually power the various domains and sites. Are you ready to make your web hosting selection? Is there any web hosting alternative you can select? Sure there is, at the moment there are more than 200,000 hosting vendors out there. Officially. Then where is the difficulty? Here's where: more than ninety eight percent of these more than two hundred thousand different website hosting brand names around the world will give you strictly the same cPanel web hosting CP and platform, branded in a different way, with precisely the same price tags! WOW! That's how great the variety on the current website hosting marketplace is... Period.

The Hosting LOTTERY we are all participating in

Simple math reveals that to select a non-cPanel based web hosting firm is a huge strike of luck. There is a less than one in fifty chance that something like that will occur! Less than one in fifty...

The advantages and disadvantages of the cPanel Hosting solution

Let's not be pitiless with cPanel. At least, in the years 2001-2004 cPanel was modish and presumably answered all web hosting business preconditions. To put it briefly, cPanel can achieve the desired result if you have just one domain name to host. But, if you have more domain names...

Negative Side Number One: A stupid domain name folder arrangement

If you have 2 or more domains, though, be very careful not to erase completely the add-on ones (that's how cPanel will refer to each next hosted domain name, which is not the default one: an add-on domain). The files of the add-on domain names are quite simple to delete on the web server, because they all are created into the root folder of the default domain, which is the very well known public_html folder. Each add-on domain is a folder situated inside the folder of the default domain name. Like a sub-folder. Next time attempt not to erase the files of the add-on domains, please. Verify for yourself how terrific cPanel's domain folder configuration is:

public_html (here my-default-domain.com is situated)
public_html/my-family (a folder part of my-default-domain.com)
public_html/my-second-domain.com (an add-on domain)
public_html/my-second-wife (a folder part of my-default-domain.com)
public_html/my-second-wife.net (an add-on domain name)
public_html/my-third-domain.com (an add-on domain)
public_html/my-third-wife (a folder part of my-default-domain.com)
public_html/my-third-wife.net (an add-on domain)
public_html/rebeka (a folder part of my-default-domain.com)
public_html/rebeka.my-third-wife.net (a sub-domain of an add-on domain name)

Are you growing nonplussed? We certainly are!

Weakness Number 2: The same electronic mail folder setup

The mail folder structure on the web hosting server is literally the same as that of the domain names... Making the very same error twice?!? The sysadmin chums strongly fortify their faith in God when coping with the mail folders on the email server, praying not to mess things up too irretrievably.

Downside No.3: A complete deficiency of domain management options

Do we have to bring up the thorough absence of a modern domain management platform - a place where you can: register/relocate/renew/park or manage domains, edit domain names' Whois info, shield the Whois information, edit/create nameservers (DNS) and DNS resource records? cPanel does not involve such a "contemporary" user interface at all. That's a colossal shortcoming. An unjustifiable one, we wish to add...

Problem Number Four: Multiple login locations (minimum two, max 3)

How about the necessity for an additional login to access the invoice transaction, domain and tech support management system? That's apart from the cPanel account login credentials you've been already given by the cPanel-based Hosting service provider. Sometimes, based on the billing platform (principally tailored for cPanel solely) the cPanel Hosting vendor is using, the devoted customers can wind up with 2 extra logins (1: the billing/domain name administration software; 2: the trouble ticket support software), winding up with an aggregate of three login locations (including cPanel).

Negative Point Number Five: More than one hundred and twenty web hosting CP areas to get to know... quickly

cPanel presents for your consideration 120+ departments inside the website hosting CP. It's a wonderful idea to pick up each one of them. And you'd better memorize them fast... That's very impudent on cPanel's side.

With all due recognition, we have a rhetorical question for all cPanel-based Hosting vendors:

As far as we are informed, it's not the year 2001, is it? Mind that one too...
